The book is some bizarre, nihilistic mix of contempt for villagers, technology, and city intellectuals all at once. He also wrote and directed an adaptation of Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, released in This book tells of the power of literature to impact people’s lives.
There, h Dai Sijie was born in China in Maybe balzad for people who knows a lot of Chinese Revolutions, because they can appreciate the details in this book costirera than I do. Basically they just found some dirty French books and liked them. Jan Edmonds I’ll check out the movie.
The ending is slow and boring. The book is bleak and ends abruptly, with little resolution.
But i had to skim the parts about The Count of Monte Cristo because i’m planning on reading it later on and it almost ruined it for me. Perhaps I would have enjoyed the plot to rely more heavily on the whereabouts and historical context! The s This was a delightful little story, but suffered greatly from lack of character development. Thirdly is the Little Chinese Seamstress of the title. I was hoping to feel their loss in their being separated from the comfort of their former lives.

The villagers spoke pretty poetic language, and not exactly the kind that common, uneducated people would use because there are many kinds of poetry in the world. Also, since it is set in China during the late s and early 70s’ “re-education” that occurred under Chairman Mao, it has shown me a particular aspect of history that I had never before known. The most nebbish character, son of a doctor, ends up getting an abortion ,a his friend’s girlfriend, without his friend ever knowing about the baby.
Unfortunately, it also left many scenes unresolved and without explanation of the point the author was trying to make. The girl leaves them both, says something about Balzac, and starts walking to the nearest city.

The boys seem to have little to no emotional connection to what is happening to their parents, what is happening to the culture, the country, no sense of loss or discovery.
Part of me wanted to credit the book for creating a condition of clarity in a contradiction or dialectic, as the surrealists apparently tried so hard to do. Probably a little of all of these. It ended a lot different to what I expected, and I believe there could’ve been a lot more details woven into the narrative to make the book more interesting.
I have this book for about a year ,but, i haven’t read it yet because i watched the movie first something i rarely do,by the way the movie was terrific!? Before turning to writing, he made three critically acclaimed feature-length films: Sijie himself was re-educated from towhich is when this novel takes place.
The little seamstress is present, but to chinq more as a side note and not the actual center of the story. Can someone please let me know what audience you think this is suited for. Want to Read saving…. Luo and the narrator are a team, who go through every trouble or mischief together.
